Reiko Kagawa

CLD, LC, IALD, LEED BD+C, WELL AP, WELL Faculty

Reiko joined SFIL in the early stages of the company’s establishment and became a Principal in 2017. With an academic background in both architecture and interior design, she values the beauty of architectural form and brings spaces to life through the thoughtful use of light. “I love architectural lighting and how it can create a memorable user experience. I see architecture as a musical score and lighting as the expression—dynamics and articulation—that brings the music to life.” Reiko is passionate about the transformative power of lighting and is committed to pushing its boundaries to align with a project’s vision, sustainability goals, and occupant well-being. Her work focuses on holistic, sustainable lighting design that bridges various recommended practices and standards. An advocate and educator on LEED and WELL, Reiko has presented at multiple conferences and authored published papers. She has received numerous national lighting awards and was named one of Lighting Magazine’s international “Top 40 Under 40” lighting designers in 2018.
