University of Massachusetts, Claire T. Carney Library

Dartmouth, MA

The Claire T. Carney Library, originally designed by Paul Rudolf has been renovated and expanded and serves as the centerpiece of the UMASS Dartmouth campus. The existing library now glows through concrete fins with the help of T5 fluorescent slots in the beam pockets which run continuously from east to west. A new glass addition encloses a previously exterior passageway and connects it to academic buildings beyond. Great detail was taken to light the concrete forms behind the glass to create the same transparency that previously existed.
