A former rooftop dance pavilion in one of Boston University’s residence halls has been transformed into a new student-focused educational, work and social space. The 115,000SF project now includes a new first floor entry lobby and study spaces and seminar and group meeting rooms on the 9th floor. Flexible spaces encourage interdisciplinary interchanges but also required a cohesive lighting approach that is zoned for multiple spaces that blend into each other and can be separated by movable glass walls. Although the east and west wings of the 9th floor have different programs, this carefully balanced, complimentary lighting approach ensures a cohesive illumination as seen from the Charles River with a genius-bar connecting the 2 wings.
